tools. Selecting via a query, saving selections, deselecting map
objects.
Finding
Using the Find command, respecifying a search, finding an intersection.
Geocoding
Assigning point locations to your data, geocoding to street address,
geocoding to ZIP Codes. Selecting un-geocoded records, creating points.
Creating Points
Using the Create Points command. Understanding latitude and longitude
coordinates.
Creating Thematic Maps
Shading points and boundaries. Shading a table based on information from
a different table, editing a legend, understanding thematic layers.
Managing thematic templates.
Labeling
Interactive labeling, label settings, editing and saving layers, typing
your own labels, saving the cosmetic layer.
Using The Layout Window
Printing your maps. Using the layout window to create output. Working
with frames objects in the Layout. Create a cartographic legend.
Creating Output: Using OLE
Using the Clipboard to paste a map into another application. Create a
clipped region.
Buffering
Buffering around point objects. Searching for objects within the buffer
using the boundary select tool and saving the results.
Intermediate MapInfo Professional
1 Day Course Outline ($495.00).
Intermediate Thematic Mapping
Creating Pie Chart Maps, proper use of Dot Density maps, shading on an
expression. Shading one table with information from another table
(joining). Effective color choice; dealing with zero values and other
advice on creating cartographically sound thematic maps.
Introduction to SQL Select
Explanation of SQL; Filtering data, deriving and
formatting information. Aggregating, summarizing, and sorting
information. Joining tables including performing a geographic join.
Saving queries.
Update Column
String parsing and functions, extracting
characters from a column, updating queries. Updating one table with
information from another (performing a one column outer join).
Redistricting
Understanding redistricting and the Districts
Browser. Assigning map objects to a district. Modifying table structure,
creating districts from scratch.
Object Creating and Editing
Create a new table and map. The Drawing ButtonPad.
Use the Snap feature, reshaping map objects. Use Autotrace. Combine
objects together, erase portion of an object, split an object into two
or more pieces. Pack a table.
Registering Raster Images
Registering raster images in MapInfo, setting
control points, adjusting display settings, using Raster Images, the
limitations of raster images, displaying an unregistered image (i.e.
company logo).
Advanced MapInfo Professional
1 Day Course Outline ($495.00)
Advanced Thematic Mapping
Creating bivariate thematic maps, (for example a map
where the color of the symbol represents one variable and the shape of
the symbol another variable). Creating inflection point maps, (using two
sets of colors in a map at once to represent a dividing point in your
data. For example a map where red indicates a loss and green indicates a
profit.) Shading regions twice using "see through" patterns.
Create grid thematic maps.
Advanced SQL Select
Geographic querying, (using geographic operators and
functions). Calculating the length of streets, calculating distances,
determining which object a point is closest to, creating circles and
using other MapBasic functions in SQL. Using Sub-selects.
Using Seamless Map Sheets
How to combine several tables into a single virtual
table, seamless map sheets explained. Benefits of using Seamless Map
Sheets. How to create a Seamless table, how use a Seamless table.
MapBasic Tricks for MapInfo
Use the MapBasic window to record and execute
MapBasic commands. Alter MapInfoís standard interface (menu items,
ButtonPads) using the MapInfo.mnu file. Edit workspaces.
How to save a series of commands (a "script"), store it and
re-use it. Some helpful commands that are only available in the MapBasic
window.
ODBC Basic for MapInfo Professional
Install ODBC support and drivers. Download an ODBC
table, create a MapInfo Map Catalog. Make an ODBC table mappable. Save
changes to a remote table.
Importing .Map Files
Use the MapInfo Universal Translator to import and
export the various different types of map files in the industry:
AutoCAD, ESRI Shape, and Intergraph/Microstation Design files. Create a
MapInfo Interchange file. Use MapInfoís Table > Import command to
import a Drawing Export Format (.DXF) file from a CAD package.
