MapInfo Professional

MapInfo Professional is the world's leading desktop mapping software that helps you see patterns and trends in your data. Trends that may otherwise be impossible to identify.

Version 10.5                 Data Sheet

  • MapInfo Professional v10.5 enables users to perform detailed data analysis to drive insightful decisions leveraging the spatial information inherent in their data. Use MapInfo Professional to:

    ·        Manage geographically based assets, such as stores, people and property

    ·        Plan logistics and prepare for emergency response

    ·        Reveal geographic patterns in tabular data

    ·        Perform sophisticated location based data analysis on an ad-hoc basis

    ·        Create custom desktop mapping applications

    ·        Create content for other Pitney Bowes MapInfo offerings i.e. use maps produced by MapInfo Professional in MapXtreme, AnySite and Envinsa

    • Visualize and analyze trends in spatial scientific data for mineralization or pollution targeting

Specifically, MapInfo Professional v10.5 provides key enhancements in the following areas:

Powerful New User Interface

MapInfo Professional v10.5s new flexible user interface not only greatly improves

efficiency and organization, but also increases productivity. The new user interface allows users to dock toolbars on all four sides of the application helping to improve efficiency, reduce screen clutter, and save time.

Redesigned Layer Control

MapInfo Professional v10.5 includes a powerful new layer control. This redesigned Layer control, shown as either a floating or docked window that remains visible during the entire mapping session, provides quick and easy access at all times.

Style swatches, label conditions, and text style settings are now easily accessible and included next to each layer, allowing you to change and preview layer settings quickly and easily. By simply clicking the desired style swatch, the new style override can be set for one or more layers in a single step.

The new layer property manipulation process, coupled with the immediate preview capability, results in fewer clicks and improved efficiency.

The redesigned layer control not only allows access to layers in all open maps, but also allows editing to layers in multiple workspaces, simultaneously. By allowing you to view, manipulate, and preview all current map layers, MapInfo Professional v10.5 creates a substantial time savings.

Enhanced Data Access

Data access is essential to any and all analysis. By providing support for the latest industry standards and databases, MapInfo Professional v10.5 enables you to apply

the power of location to an unlimited number of data types. New supported data formats include:

PostGISProvides full read and write capabil- ities to the open source PostgreSQL database. Access to the open source database allows users to access, edit, and save PostGIS files to the database through MapInfo Professional.

MapInfo Professional v10.5 satisfies various government mandates requiring PostGIS format support.

MapMarker

MapMarker is a combination of software and data which allows users to geocode (i.e. assign longitude and latitude coordinates) to their datasets.

The data component of MapMarker is known as the Address Dictionary. The address dictionary contains a list of all valid postal addresses, (obtained from the US Postal Service), street line segments, (obtained from the US Census Bureau’s TIGER database), and ZIP+4 centroids, (obtained from Geographic Data Technology, Inc).

The software includes capabilities to read address information from records in MapInfo tables (and remote databases) and match them to the information in the address dictionary. Coordinates are assigned to the records as they are matched. The result of this is the ability to view the information on maps in MapInfo Corp and other mapping software products.

As it geocodes, MapMarker takes the input address and scrubs (or cleanses) it. The parsing engine is very sophisticated to the point that MapMarker is capable of geocoding records that are misspelled. Thus, MapMarker users can simultaneously geocode and clean their data.

MapMarker comes with tools developers can use to add geocoding to their mapping applications.

MapMarker is a combination of software and data for geocoding local or remote tables of records.

MapMarker is a tool which can be used to correct inaccurate or incomplete addresses in a database.

MapMarker is a server-based geocoder coupled with an OCX for remote client geocoding.

MapMarker is a C API (application programming interface) for incorporating geocoding in applications.

MapMarker is an OLE Automation interface for embedding geocoding in remote client applications. (This means VB, Delphi, PowerBuilder and other environments can embed geocoding easily.)

MapMarker includes an API for creating customized address dictionaries.

MapMarker includes a collection of utility programs for specialized geocoding needs. MapMarker is updated 2 times per year.

MapMarker Plus

MapMarker Plus is an enhanced version of MapMarker. The major difference is that it contains an enhanced address dictionary provided by Geographic Data Technology (GDT). GDT’s enhanced street map provides more matches of the highest accuracy (street level matches). MapMarker Plus now has CASS Cerification and is updated six times a year.

MapBasic

MapBasic is a robust, complete, BASIC-like programming language used by corporate developers and value-added resellers to create customized mapping applications or integrate mapping functionality  into existing applications.

MapX

MapX is a tool for application developers. It offers the easiest, most cost-effective way to embed mapping functionality into new and existing applications. MapX is an OCX component that can be quickly integrated into client side applications using Visual Basic, PowerBuilder, Delphi, Visual C++ or other object-oriented languages and in Lotus Notes (v4.5) using Lotus Script.

MapXsite

Based on the MapX OCX. MapXsite is a complete development package that enables you to add interactive, map-based "Find the Nearest/Dealer Locator" applications to a web site.

MapXtreme

Also based on the MapX OCX. MapXtreme is a mapping application server for your Intranet or Extranet. It enables companies to visualize their data on a map to discover new relationships and
trends not apparent when viewing data on spreadsheets and reports.

MAPXTREME FEATURE LIST

1. MapXtreme provides an out of the box solution with code in HahtSite and all the customer has to do is customize in Haht.

2. Other IDE(Integrated Development Environments), such as Active Server Pages, Cold Fusion, Visual Inter Dev, and NetDynamics, can run side by side with Haht on the same server.

3. MapXtreme provides display data in the solution, such as base map data, streets, etc.

4. MapXtreme provides scalability through HahtSite (the ability to scale to multiple machines). This is the reason why MapInfo partnered with Haht since they provide the most robust and scalable application server.

5. MapXtreme provides a built in geocoder with street data included.

6. MapXtreme provides a Visual Development Environment which means that all html development (coding, server side logic) is done in 1 integrated environment.

7. MapXtreme is both customizable, as well as powerful. There is no trade off. It does it all. For example, adding a new tool to the user interface that would allow the user to click on a map and immediately zoom to 2 miles will only take 5 minutes in MapXtreme.

8. MapXtreme has integration to SpatialWare for Oracle and Informix which gives the customer industry standard access to geographic information in these databases.

9. MapXtreme provides direct Lotus Notes connectivity. ie., Lotus Domino. Therefore, Domino and Notes applications can be more easily developed.
